Maybe I'm blind?

So I've seen this all over the place today, and everyone seems to think that Bill Clinton's rebuttal was either not enough, or was racist.

First of all- let me just say something- when I say "Shorter girls can get away with baby talk, whereas I would look mental should I attempt it"... it's not because I actually want to be able to get away with such a thing. In fact, I find it insidious and obnoxious and even if I wasn't especially tall, I would not attempt it. In all actuality, anyone over the age of three appears to be mental when speaking in baby talk. So, you know, I kinda see what he's doing here. I think the subtle, and self-deprecating dig was a better choice than to go apeshit. I think he was pretty classy about it, all the while making his point (that he was disgusted) known.

As for the racist thing... I honestly don't see that either. Really. And I've looked for it, and I've thought about it, but no. I don't think breakdancing has been specifically tied to the black community since "Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo." And most certainly, it has not been especially edgy since I saw that lady on the Real Housewives get her kid breakdancing lessons. Which, by the way, was totally freakin' hilarious. What was he supposed to say? Country line dancing? Because that's the only form of dance I can think of that has even been invented by white people within the last 100 years. And it hardly involves an excessive amount of movement. Yeah, the joke was a corny old man joke, but I sincerely don't think he meant anything sinister by it- whereas Bush I's "joke" was just icky, and vitriolic, and not at all funny. If I did, I'd be up a wall, but I truly don't.

Well, then I guess I'm elitist. Thanks, Ben Shapiro!

Oh wow. So Ben Shapiro (Harvard Graduate) has taken it upon himself to identify the traits of an elitist in the populist style of Jeff Foxworthy! So, I must wonder... am I in fact an elitist? Lets find out!
You’re an elitist if you love Brokeback Mountain, but think that John Wayne movies are jingoistic expressions of outdated American machismo.

What if I just think they're boring and have no intention of ever watching one?

You’re an elitist if you believe that anyone who supports the standard of a married man and woman raising a child is a bigot.

Bigot- n. One who is strongly partial to one's own group, religion, race, or politics and is intolerant of those who differ.

When the definition changes, let me know.

You’re an elitist if you love watching soccer and you’re not a recent immigrant.

Well, I guess soccer moms have gone out of style...

You’re an elitist if you hate Whittaker Chambers but love Arthur Miller.

Yeah, because non-elitist people totally know who Whittaker Chambers was. And who would prefer a dude who ratted on all his friends to the guy who wrote Death of a Salesman, and All My Sons? Which, btw, were not exactly plays about the elite of the nation.

You’re an elitist if you believe Jon Stewart is non-partisan, but Fox News is an outlet for the Republican National Committee.

Jon Stewart is a comedian on purpose. Fox News is just a joke

You’re an elitist if you don’t mind Sarah Silverman’s language but can’t stand James Dobson’s.

You're an idiot if you don't get that it's meta. She's not serious. James Dobson is.

You’re an elitist if you worry what the Europeans think of us.

Because making the world hate us works out so well, right?

You’re an elitist if you think public school teachers are qualified to inform your children about sex, but parents aren’t qualified to teach their children basic math.

Well, yes- because they have a curriculum. Also, as I imagine this refers to homeschooling- it's a lot more than basic math that people have to learn. Jen was homeschooled and was one of the few people she knew who went through that and ended up going to college and being able to function in the world.

You’re an elitist if you think the government should manage the health care system even though it can’t manage to keep the tax code within a 10,000 page limit

You're an asshole if you think only those with the financial means deserve health care.

You’re an elitist if you think transgenders ought to have their own bathrooms for privacy reasons, but public distribution of pornography is fine.

No one says that. What we actually say is that bathrooms should be unisex, and who gives a shit anyway? And who knew that only elitists liked porn? Go know, right?

You’re an elitist if you think that pro-life folks are fascists unmotivated by true sympathy for the unborn.

I'd be more likely to believe them if they had the same sympathy for the born.

You’re an elitist if you know what arugula is but don’t know who Jimmie Johnson is.

Arugula is delicious, and I think he's the sandwich guy?

Oh well, so I guess I'm an elitist. Go know. Thank god I have Ben Shapiro (Harvard Graduate) to fill me in.

You know You're an Elitist if... by Ben Shapiro

I thought Fox News was already Fake News...

Apparently, Fox News is trying out its own "conservative version of The Daily Show" called "The Half Hour News Hour." Guests will include the always hilarious Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter!... uh...

See, ok, this is the thing- Republicans are not funny. It's pretty much a fact. I mean, sure- they have their comedic heroes like that Cable Guy or whatever... but he's not funny. I saw the preview for his movie a while back, and I was literally stunned that there were people who found him at all entertaining. Dennis Miller stopped being funny the second he went all wingnut. For real. It's not like I can't find people funny if I disagree with them- he just went totally flat post-conversion.

Because, well- I'll explain. Making fun of rich people- this could be funny. Making fun of the homeless... generally disturbing on all levels of human decency. It's not funny to hear the powerful making fun of the powerless, for the oppressors to make fun of the oppressed. It's awkward, yes, but not in any way that would be construed as funny. Also, how many Born Again Christian comedians are there? None that I know of. 'Cause, you know, while it's damned hilarious if someone believes that they are going to be vacuumed up into heaven someday and leave their clothes in a pile on the ground... it is not funny that people do not think that. Like "Oh my god, those athiests- are they wacky! They don't believe in guardian angels and the rapture!" Not funny. Not at all.

I have a feeling it's going to be a lot of fart jokes and varying renditions of "the gay voice."
